San Francisco → Chennai
Our story
Two kids of the diaspora
Lakshmi was born in Chennai, moved to San Jose at six. Aditya was born in Hyderabad, moved to Edison NJ at four. They met in San Francisco at a Tam-Brahm community Diwali they both attended begrudgingly because their mothers wanted them to.
Why Chennai
Lakshmi's parents got married at the Madras Club in 1992. Her grandparents in 1965. Aditya's parents agreed: the ceremony would be Tam-Brahm tradition, in the place that shaped both families. We wanted to give our parents the homecoming wedding that the diaspora rarely gets to host.
What we kept and what we changed
Muhurtham, oonjal, kashi yatra, all traditional, our parents' way. Reception evening: open dance floor, both vegetarian and non-veg options, friends from both coasts in cocktail dress. Both halves matter.
